Moissanite is naturally occurring Silicon Carbide (SiC). It was originally discovered by the French chemist Henri Moissan in 1893 at the site of a massive meteorite strike in Arizona. It literally came from space! Natural Moissanite is extremely rare. Scientists later developed a thermal growing process to create the silicone carbide that makes up Moissanite in a lab. This process takes weeks for the creation of a single gem, which is then cut according to specific angles and proportions to help enhance its brilliance.
